International Day for Street Children - Awareness, prevention, and combating of child vagrancy campaign

   584

In the context of the International Day for Street Children, marked annually on March 21, the Municipality of Chisinau, through the General Directorate for Child Rights Protection, is conducting a campaign for awareness, prevention, and combating of child vagrancy, as well as supporting and protecting minors identified on the streets.

A child's place is not on the street, but in school, at home with family, or playing with peers. Delayed reporting about a child's identification or disappearance puts them at risk. Through involvement and responsibility, we can help street children.

Girls on the brink of adolescence are the most exposed to leaving their homes, and the most vulnerable age category is between 13 to 16 years.

The main reasons children run away from home remain the lack of parental supervision, fear of parental reaction to academic performance or a mistake made by the child, the intention to earn money due to poor family financial situations, fleeing from physical and emotional abuse, behavioral disorders due to family neglect, the intention to independently sustain themselves and earn money, peer influence, or being left in the care of relatives following parents' departure to work abroad.

Many children living on the streets face health problems, are vulnerable, exposed to abuse, or humiliated. Do not leave them to their fate!

If you identify children on the streets who are begging, or know of cases of neglect or violence against children, call the emergency number: 112 or report to municipal services at the number 067443350, to intervene and apply protective measures for the child.

Say NO to vagrancy and begging on the streets!

Be involved and alert the authorities about children found on the STREET.
