The Chisinau Municipal Council has approved the allocation of land for the construction of a waste recycling center on Uzinelor Street. This measure is contained in the Concept on integrated municipal waste management in Chisinau for the period 2024-2035.
The rapporteur on the draft decision, Igor Gârlea, acting head of the Regia "Autosalubritate", said that the selection of the lot was made in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development based on the criterion of its proximity to the transfer station, in order to make costs more efficient, and the recycling center will be built next to the station.
LPA Chisinau is taking on the construction of the transfer station from the municipal financial resources, which will be drawn from EIB, EBRD, E5P and "Autosalubritate", to the extent that it will be necessary. In turn, the Ministry of Environment will build a recycling center next to the Transfer Station.
At the same time, it should be noted that the landfill for the storage of solid waste will be located outside the territory of Chisinau municipality.
The commitment of LPA Chisinau is to develop an efficient and sustainable system of waste management, which corresponds to the rigor of the policies in the field and the expectations of citizens.
Thus, the municipality of Chisinau is committed to implement a set of ambitious measures in order to achieve the objective of increasing the recovery rate of different waste streams and types. This can be achieved by adopting an integrated municipal waste management system. Such an approach promotes sustainable resource use and efficient waste management, which contributes to a healthy and clean environment for citizens.
The National Waste Management Strategy foresees the regionalization of municipal waste management services. At present, the regions are fragmented into 8 zones, with the municipality of Chisinau to be part of Waste Management Zone 4/6 (according to the EIB/Ramboll Pre-feasibility Study (2023).
